Ontario Land Tribunal Warns of Fraudulent Payment Requests
The Town of Tillsonburg is sharing information from the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) regarding reports of fraudulent emails requesting additional payments related to the processing or approval of an application or appeal.
The OLT has advised that it only requires the prescribed filing fee when an application or appeal is submitted. The Tribunal does not contact parties individually to request additional fees or payments as part of the application, appeal, or hearing process.
Residents, businesses, and anyone involved in an OLT matter are encouraged to be cautious if they receive an unexpected email requesting payment.
If you receive a suspicious email:
- Do not provide any payment or financial information.
- Do not respond to the email or click on any links or attachments.
- Report the incident to your local police service or contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online or by calling 1-888-495-8501.
- Contact your assigned OLT Case Coordinator to report the email and verify whether any action is required.
