Canada Day Fireworks Update

Back to Search

TILLSONBURG, ON — During the Canada Day celebration at Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, concerns were raised regarding both the entertainment at the Memorial Park Bandshell and the shortened fireworks display.

The Bandshell had been rented to a third-party individual who retained a DJ. During the event, inappropriate language was used by the DJ. The Town of Tillsonburg recognizes the concerns raised by community members regarding the content of the performance.

The language used does not reflect the values of the Town of Tillsonburg, particularly during a family-oriented community celebration. Residents and visitors attending Canada Day festivities should be able to expect entertainment that is suitable for audiences of all ages.

Moving forward, the Town will strengthen its rental requirements to help ensure that entertainment provided at all-age events is appropriate and aligns with the family-friendly nature of community celebrations and public events held on Town property.

The Town is also aware of the disappointment surrounding the shortened fireworks display.

The fireworks display was provided by a contractor retained by the Town. During the show, the computer system responsible for controlling all ignitions and timing experienced a technical failure. Despite efforts by the operator, the issue could not be corrected on-site, resulting in the display ending earlier than planned.

The contractor has accepted responsibility and apologized for the incident.

The Town understands that the fireworks display is an important part of the Canada Day celebration and recognizes the disappointment experienced by residents and visitors when the display ended earlier than planned. To ensure residents and visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a full fireworks experience, the contractor has agreed to a makeup fireworks display to be held for Labour Day on Sunday, September 6, 2026, with additional details to be shared closer to the event.

The Town of Tillsonburg appreciates the feedback received from residents and visitors. We remain committed to supporting safe, welcoming, and inclusive community events and look forward to providing an enjoyable Labour Day celebration for the community.
