Do It Right: Backyard Pools

Thinking about getting a pool this summer? Owning a pool is terrific—but it comes with responsibilities.

Outdoor swimming pools can pose a danger to young children if left unattended and unprotected. By-law 4008 requires every outdoor swimming pool that is capable of holding water deeper than 24 inches or is greater than 22 sq. ft. to be enclosed by
a fence.

A permit for a swimming pool enclosure must be obtained before the pool is installed.

Remember to investigate the cost of proper fencing/enclosure before purchasing any pool—including soft-sided and inflatable models.
