Tillsonburg Update - August 3

Mayor’s Message

Earlier this week, Tillsonburg’s Progress Pride-themed crosswalk, located on Bridge Street West at Broadway, was vandalized. The damage occurred just days after the crossing was installed by Pride Oxford. A Pride-themed walkway and picnic table at the Station Arts Centre were also targeted.

Defacing public property is not acceptable in Tillsonburg at any time. However, this particular kind of vandalism is deeply concerning. These incidents appear to be wilful, targeted acts of disrespect intended to divide our community.

Vandalism is not freedom of expression. It’s anti-social behaviour and it will not be tolerated. We need to work together to a create a respectful community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Anyone with information about these incidents is encouraged to contact Oxford OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Sanitary Sewer Flushing

The Town of Tillsonburg is continuing its sanitary sewer maintenance program.

July 31 - August 31
Sanitary sewer flushing will occur in areas south of Concession Street West and west of Rolph Street.

Affected neighbourhoods include Baldwin Place, Bridle Path, Edgewood Dr., Hickory Hills, Reynolds Way, Trottier, Victoria Wood, Westmount, Whispering Pines and Woodhaven.

The work will be performed on weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. High traffic areas may be flushed after 7:00 p.m. to ensure safety for contractors and residents.

During this work, a bubbling and/or vacuum effect may be noticed in your drains and/or toilets. If you notice this occurring, close all toilet seats and cover any floor drains during the flushing period. In order to prevent sewer gases from migrating into the home, it is important to refill all plumbing traps by running the water in your sinks and floor drains after the work is complete.
