Tillsonburg Update - March 21

Notice of Public Engagement: New Parks By-Law

The Town currently does not have a By-law to regulate activities in our Parks and Recreational Areas within the Town of Tillsonburg. The Town of Tillsonburg Council deems it desirable to pass a By-law to provide for the use, protection, and regulation of public Parks in the Town of Tillsonburg.

The new Parks By-law will encompass restrictions for all areas, buildings under the control of the Town for the purpose of offering recreation to the public. Some areas that will be included are as follows:

  • Tennis Courts
  • Arena
  • Outdoor Ice Rink
  • Ice Surface
  • Swimming Pool
  • Wading Pool/Spray Pad
  • Play Area
  • Community Centre
  • Skateboard Facility
  • Sports Fields
  • Dog Park
  • Squash Court
  • Lake Lisgar Waterpark
  • Senior Centre
  • Health Club
  • Lake Lisgar
    Park
  • Community Gardens
  • Scott McLean Recreation Pad

Some of the highlights of the new Parks By-law are charges for obstructing officers, parking restrictions in recreational areas, graffiti, unauthorized gatherings, park hours, operating watercraft/ pleasure craft, loitering in washrooms, use of barbeques, public urination, starting fires, igniting fireworks, loitering, littering, smoking and consuming alcohol/ drugs.

In addition, special prohibitions were created to address Environmental Protected Areas, Multi-use Pathways, Outdoor Ice Rinks, Lake Lisgar, and Dog Parks.

The purpose of the Parks By-law is to address issues of concern occurring on Town property, increase safety and enjoyment to the community; as well provide additional enforcement tools.

A copy of the Parks By-law along with supporting material is available for review between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, at the Town of Tillsonburg Customer Service Centre (10 Lisgar Ave.) and online.

If you have any questions or comments, please call 519-688-3009 ext. 4202 or submit written inquiries/comments by email to mpuhr@tillsonburg.ca by April 5, 2024.
