Limited number of free solar eclipse glasses available beginning April 2

Town supports Monarch Butterfly Eclipse Project

On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America. What makes this eclipse truly unique is that its path closely mirrors the major migration route of the endangered Monarch Butterfly.

The Town of Tillsonburg has purchased a quantity of solar eclipse viewing glasses in support of the Monarch Butterfly Eclipse Project. The glasses are ISO Certified 12312-2:2015(E) and will be available to interested Tillsonburg residents free of charge beginning April 2.

Glasses (maximum 6 per person) can be picked up at the following locations, while supplies last:

  • Customer Service Centre - 10 Lisgar Ave.
  • Annandale NHS - 30 Tillson Ave.
  • Community Centre - 45 Hardy Ave.

The Monarch Butterfly Eclipse Foundation, being established by The Monarch Butterfly Eclipse Project, will use the net proceeds from the sales of ISO solar eclipse glasses to fund initiatives that protect the habitat and overall population health of Monarch Butterflies. This includes supporting research, conservation efforts, and educational programs aimed at raising awareness about the importance of preserving these iconic and endangered creatures.
