Notice of Public Engagement

Lot Maintenance By-law is proposed to replace Clean Yard By-law 3810

Proposed Lot Maintenance By-law, along with supporting material is now available for public comment. The period for Public Engagement is January 25, 2023 to February 20, 2023.

The Town of Tillsonburg strives to ensure that the public is involved in all aspects of developing a safe, healthy and happy community.

The Town’s current Clean Yard By-law 3810 regulates yard maintenance standards within Town limits. It was last reviewed and adopted by Town of Tillsonburg Council on August 9, 2021.

While the current by-law regulates yard maintenance standards within Town limits, it does not address emerging issues such as fences, snow/ice on buildings, vermin, dead trees, storage of recreational vehicles, use of tents, graffiti, sight triangles, commercial vehicle storage, use of storage containers, dumping, and refuse collection. It also does not include set fine provisions.

A complete review and rewrite of the by-law has now been completed. Many of the provisions from the previous Clean Yard By-law have been incorporated into the new Lot Maintenance By-law. In addition, offences that are found in the Property Standards By-law 3638, Snow/Ice/Dirt/Litter Removal By-law 2189, and Zoning By-law 3295 have also been included. The purpose of these additions is to speed up the timeline for by-law officers to be able to address matters, allow remedial provisions, and reduce the need for mandatory court appearances.

A copy of the proposed Lot Maintenance By-law, along with supporting material is available for review between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, at the Town of Tillsonburg Customer Service Centre (10 Lisgar Ave.) and using the links below:
