Committee Mandate

The Cultural, Heritage and Special Awards Advisory Committee advises Council on matters related to tourism, culture and heritage. The role of the Committee is to:

  • Actively encourage partnerships
  • Make recommendations with respect to tourism and culture
  • To make recommendations to Council on matters related to properties of architectural and historical significance
  • To receive nominations and make recommendations to Council for the Citizen of the Year and monthly awards
  • Appoint sub-committees as required for the establishment of community events (i.e. Turtlefest, Air shows, etc.)
  • Develop relationships for coordinating events

Committee Composition 
The Cultural, Heritage and Special Awards Advisory Committee is comprised of a minimum of seven members (maximum 9), including one member of Tillsonburg Town Council.
Meeting Time & Location
The committee meets at 5:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month in the Annex Board Room, 200 Broadway Street, 2nd Floor, Tillsonburg, ON.
Cultural Grants

Cultural Grants will be awarded to initiatives that result in a unique contribution to the cultural life of the community or that promote activities in support of the artistic, historical or lifestyle heritage of the Town.

Volunteer Achievement Awards

The Tillsonburg Volunteer Achievement Awards recognize individuals who make significant, sustained contributions to the community as a volunteer.

Volunteer Achievement Awards are given for unpaid contributions in the following four categories: 

  1. Sports, recreation and education
  2. Arts, culture and heritage
  3. Seniors and youth
  4. Civic
 Nomination Process and Evaluation Criteria
Anyone may nominate an individual for the award, however only nominees who live in Tillsonburg or whose volunteer service benefits the Tillsonburg community will be considered.

Nominations can be submitted at any time, and new award presentations are made each month. Each nomination form should provide details of the volunteer's involvement and describe the impact these efforts have on the community.


Evaluation Criteria:

The Town's Special Awards Committee will review all nominations, giving consideration to: 

  1. The length and impact of service
  2. The uniqueness of the nominee's efforts
  3. The extent to which the nominee supports and involves other people
  4. The challenges and/or barriers the nominee has overcome in order to contribute
