Do It Right: Backyard Pools

Thinking about getting a pool this summer? Owning a pool is terrific—but it comes with responsibilities. Outdoor swimming pools can pose a danger to young children if left unattended and unprotected. By-law 4008 requires every outdoor swimming pool that is capable of holding water deeper than 24 inches or is greater than 22 sq. ft. to be enclosed by a fence. A permit is also required before any pool that can hold more than 24 inches of water or is greater than 22 sq. ft is installed. Remember to investigate the cost of proper fencing/enclosure before purchasing any pool—including softsided and inflatable models. Learn more about the requirements for pools at www.tillsonburg.ca/pools.
