Sanitary Sewer Flushing Program begins October 19

Posted on Thursday October 15, 2020

Sanitary sewer flushing will begin October 19 in  the Town of Tillsonburg.

Affected areas include the downtown core, Annandale Heights, Riverdale and Potters Gate subdivisions as well as areas near Simcoe Street, Vienna Road and John Pound Road. A map showing the flush area can be found using the link below.

Most of the work will be completed Monday to Friday, between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. However, some high traffic areas will be flushed after 7:00 PM to avoid congestion and ensure safety. Contractors will work in different areas each week until mid December.

Sanitary sewer flushing is a preventative maintenance process that eliminates the potential for sanitary sewer main surcharging which can result in damage to property. Should you have any further questions, please call us at 519.688.3009.

If you have property are in the affected area:

During this flush process, the contractor (Pipetek Infrastructure Services) will be setting up equipment at manholes in the roadway to release pressurized water through the sanitary sewer main pipe, removing any buildup. As a result, a bubbling and/or vacuum effect may be noticed in your drains and toilets. If residents begin to notice this occurring, it is recommended that you close all toilet seats and cover any floors drains during the flushing period. In addition, in order to prevent sewer gases from migrating into the home, it is important to refill all plumbing traps by running the water in your sinks and floor drains after the work is complete.
