Town recognizes the passing of John "Jack" Whitmore

The Town of Tillsonburg will recognize the passing of John “Jack” Henry Fleming Whitmore on July 2, 2019 by lowering flags in front of the Town Centre mall from July 12 to July 16.

Whitmore served on Tillsonburg Town Council for seven years in the 1980s and represented Tillsonburg on Oxford County Council for five.  In the community, he was a long-standing member of the Tillsonburg Lions Club and held various leadership roles at Avondale United Church. He also served on the board at VON Sakura House, and was a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society. In 2014, he was named Citizen of the Year by the Tillsonburg District Chamber of Commerce for his outstanding contributions to the community.

A pharmacist by profession, Jack graduated from the College of Pharmacy at University of Toronto in 1952. He married Ruth Muddiman in 1962 and the couple moved to Tillsonburg in 1965. They bought an independent pharmacy from R.A. Hillburg which became Whitmore Pharmacy on Broadway. 

A celebration of Whitmore’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Avondale United Church (60 Harvey Street). The family will receive visitors before the service from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
